Docs-On-Line

To illustrate how Docs-On-Line can help streamline your business processes, let's break an imaging system into its four main components – image capture, image indexing, image storage, and image search and retrieval.

  • Image Capture
Many imaging systems have implemented their own capture processing, but Docs-On-Line's open architecture allows stand-alone capture packages to release their output directly into the First National Information Solutions system. This way, Docs-On-Line benefits from the expertise of the image capture experts while you benefit from being able to choose the package that best suits your needs and is capable of implementing new technology as it becomes available.

  • Image Indexing
Again, because of its open architecture, Docs-On-Line will readily accept the indexing that has been performed in your capture software. However, your work processes may require that indexing be performed from within the image retrieval application instead of the scanning station. Docs-On-Line can accommodate either situation: index images in a capture package and release those indexes directly to Docs-On-Line, or simply release your captured images and perform indexing from within the Docs-On-Line Client, the link to your digital database.

  • Image Storage
The file storage industry also offers numerous choices and Docs-On-Line was specifically designed to integrate with a variety of storage technologies. You choose the technology that works best for you – magnetic, optical, tape, disk array or SAN – as long as it can provide access to your files through a normal file path, and Docs-On-Line will integrate seamlessly.

  • Image Search and Retrieval
Docs-On-Line implements a completely Web-based application that allows you to query your index information, present an intuitive result listing, view and edit the index information and display the image. Plus, Docs-On-Line is capable of storing and delivering any file type, including TIFF, PDF, TXT, Word and Excel, to name a few.

Docs-On-Line Server
ties your digital data (both indexes and files) together, storing the indexes and a path to the file in its database while managing the integration between the capture package, file storage system and the Docs-On-Line Client.

Docs-On-Line Client is the link that allows you to search the database of indexes and retrieve the appropriate documents. The application resides on a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) Web server, and is a collection of Active Server Pages (ASP), HTML pages and COM components. The application uses JavaScript, ASP coding and COM to provide a rich client application through a Web browser. There are no custom programs to install, no additional components to download and, best of all, Docs-On-Line Client only needs to have a Web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape v4.0 or greater) installed.
